This Little Light

Not only was Mother’s Day a special one for me, but it was also the day that Emmett was baptized.

We attend a large church and generally there are several children being baptized at one time. On this day, however, it was just our Emmett Thomas. This made it even more special.

Before baptizing him, the pastor shared with the congregation the Hebrew meaning of Emmett. Spelled EMET it means truth and faithfulness. In doing a little further research, we came across a blog, which explained it this way:

Emet is the Hebrew word used in Exodus 34:6 to speak of God’s covenant faithfulness. God’s covenant faithfulness means that we can be certain that he will do what he has promised. His works and his words are faithful; we can totally depend on Him. “Emet” comes from the same root that “amen” comes from which we use in our prayers to express certainty and assurance in the Lord to whom we pray.

Isn’t that awesome? You can read more about it here. We’d never heard this before. We chose Emmett’s name simply because we liked it, but God was clearly at work in our hearts. As He always is.

In preparation for his baptism, we chose a life verse for Emmett. We shared this verse with the congregation as a prayer and guide for him in life. The verse that we chose is Matthew 5:16

let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven

                                      

Afterwards we celebrated with our families.Unfortunately, Emmett got his hands on the cake before we left the house, so it was a little squished. Oh well!

                                         

As you can see, it made no difference to Emmett. He dug right into the frosting!
