This Little Light

IMGP3396Not only was Mother’s Day a special one for me, but it was also the day that Emmett was baptized.

We attend a large church and generally there are several children being baptized at one time. On this day, however, it was just our Emmett Thomas. This made it even more special.

Before baptizing him, the pastor shared with the congregation the Hebrew meaning of Emmett. Spelled EMET it means truth and faithfulness. In doing a little further research, we came across a blog, which explained it this way:

Emet is the Hebrew word used in Exodus 34:6 to speak of God’s covenant faithfulness. God’s covenant faithfulness means that we can be certain that he will do what he has promised. His works and his words are faithful; we can totally depend on Him. “Emet” comes from the same root that “amen” comes from which we use in our prayers to express certainty and assurance in the Lord to whom we pray.

Isn’t that awesome? You can read more about it here. We’d never heard this before. We chose Emmett’s name simply because we liked it, but God was clearly at work in our hearts. As He always is.

In preparation for his baptism, we chose a life verse for Emmett. We shared this verse with the congregation as a prayer and guide for him in life. The verse that we chose is Matthew 5:16

let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven

Afterwards we celebrated with our families.Unfortunately, Emmett got his hands on the cake before we left the house, so it was a little squished. Oh well!

As you can see, it made no difference to Emmett. He dug right into the frosting!

Shine on, Emmett Thomas!

Museum of Flight

We made our very first visit to the Museum of Flight last week, as well.  The boys couldn’t believe all of the airplanes. Airplanes that they could ride in, ones that they could walk through, airplanes way up high hanging from the ceiling! Airplanes everywhere. A little boy’s dream!

It’s not easy to get this little guy to sit still for long enough to take his picture.

The Zoo, Zoo, Zoo!

P1000468On Wednesday we went to the zoo. It was Joanna and Zoe’s first time there! My parents came, as did Joanna’s sister, Justyna, and her daughter, Bridget. We had fun seeing the animals. The hit for the boys, however, was the new dinosaur exhibit they had there. The dinosaurs are huge and they move!  The boys were delightfully intimidated by them.

The Big Catch

For Easter, Jack received a fishing pole. For the past week, I’ve narrowly missed being hit in the head by a rubber fish many times as Jack practiced casting in our house.  Having nearly perfected his cast, it was time to put it to the test and try to catch some fish.

P1000465Tom found a great trout farm online  just outside of Renton. Jack packed his tackle box and pole and we hit the road. The playground and fort were the first thing Jack saw when we got there. Fishing quickly took a back seat to playing.

After we’d exhausted the playground, we headed down to the ponds. The fish were divided into 3 ponds: small, medium, and large fish. The large fish were big (like 15 or more inches!) so we started at the small pond.

P1000453Jack and Tom loaded up the hook with bait and cast it in. The first couple of attempts didn’t yield success, but Jack had fun reeling in the hook. But the great thing about fishing at a farm, is that there are lots of fish and they are just ready to bite your hook. It wasn’t long before Jack and Tom were reeling in Jack’s first fish.

The proud fisherman shows off his catch!

Emmett, too, wanted in on the action. His attention span was short, and he was more interested in touching the fish in the bucket, than catching one.

We left the fishing hole with two fish, which the boys later ate for dinner. We will definitely be heading back to this place!
