Jack’s List

A few days before Emmett’s birthday, Jack and Tom talked about what Jack might get Emmett for his birthday. They talked about how when giving a gift you really needed to think about what the recipient of the gift would want, instead of just getting the person something you would want.

Later that day, Jack took Tom into his room to show him the list that he had made for Emmett’s birthday gift. He had his list carefully hidden in his room so that Emmett wouldn’t find it. And this is what he had written:

It reads express train.

Now I was impressed that he had tried to sound out this word all by himself and that the first part was pretty close, but I was even more impressed by the gift idea. You see, every time that we had ventured through the toy aisles at Target, Emmett had always stopped to play with the Cars 2 Spy Train. And Jack had remembered that.

Melting. Heart.

We got that train for Emmett and Jack experienced the joy of giving a gift that the recipient really wanted. And he was totally content. That is, until he wanted to play with it!

Emmett is Three!

Em-bo celebrated his birthday in true Emmett style.  It was an all-out-nothing- held -back-party-till-you-pass-out–from-exhaustion kind of birthday.

Here’s a look at the birthday celebrations.

Lunch at The Chuckwagon with Nana and Boppa.

A special day out with Grandma and Grandpa.

The traditional birthday waffle on birthday morning.

Even the pumpkin patch in the rain couldn’t dampen this kid’s celebration!

Not sure who this guy is, but he showed up to celebrate Emmett’s birthday.

And he brought this character with him.

Post birthday party exhaustion. Turning three can really tucker a guy out!

A Painted House. Finally!

I guess in all fairness it was painted about a month ago, but the new doors just got painted this week.  I think the colors turned out great. And what a change from the old paint job.

Remember what our house looked like before?

And here’s what it looks like now:

And here is what the windows look like painted. From a distance, they look like we replaced them!

We also replaced the front door and side light.

Now that the big stuff is done, it is time for the fun stuff. I’m planning to make a seat cushion for the bench in some fun colors. I also am ready to add back in some plants and landscaping into the flower beds.

What do you think?
