President's Day Weekend

February 027 We had a fantastic weekend at Crystal Mountain this past weekend. Tom's parents rented a cabin about 20 minutes from the mountain. We got there around 11:00 Saturday morning and spent a couple of hours playing in the snow around the cabin. Jack got to do some sledding and try out his skis. Yes, he does have a pair of skis. While he isn't quite ready to hit the slopes, Tom held Jack between his legs and let him feel the sensation of gliding on the snow. It won't be long before we have a little ripper!

On Sunday, Tom and I were able to do some skiing thanks to his parents watching Jack. The conditions weren't ideal, but we still had a fun time cruising down the slopes and hanging out with Jane and her boyfriend, Tom. For my birthday dinner, we headed to the Naches Tavern for some food and drinks. It was a perfect place to eat, since they now are family friendly. Jack LOVED it there. Maybe it was because he got to try a little of everything-nachos, french fries, hamburgers, fish-or maybe it was because he had the complete attention of our entire table, not to mention the waitress and the owner. Perhaps the best part of the evening (for Jack) was the chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream. By the time we finished dinner, we had one full little boy! We had such a wonderful weekend with our family. We are blessed.

Loving the Sunshine!

This past week has been so wonderful because there has been sunshine every day. Jack and I have been taking full advantage of it. We've begun taking real walks around our neighborhood. By "real" I mean that Jack actually walks and holds my hand. We never make it more than a block or two, but we stomp on grass, touch leaves, and examine pine cones. Yesterday the power company was putting up a new telephone pole so we walked down to the corner of our street and watched the big trucks. We even got to see one of the workers go up in the cherry picker basket to work on the power lines. Jack watched in awe, all the while making his truck sounds. This morning, a garbage truck was parked on our block, so we walked down to it and watched it pick up garbage. Jack's eyes sparkled the entire time.

We've also been hitting up different playgrounds. It is so much more fun now to visit the playgrounds and let Jack walk around and explore the different toys. He really enjoys the merry-go-round. He doesn't really care about going around in circles, but he does like the sound his feet make when he stomps on the metal.

While he doesn't really have any words beyond, "mama", "dada", and "hi", he is really beginning to understand language. If I ask him to go and get his shoes, he will go into the front room and get them. I love asking him to go and tell something to Tom. Since he doesn't have any words to use, he simply walks over to Tom and babbles to him. It is precious!
