Crib Time

The past couple of mornings Jack has wanted Emmett to lay in his crib with him. They are so adorable in there together, I have to snap pictures every time they have their crib time!

Brotherly Love

This past week and a half has brought a lot of change for our family, especially for Jack. I had no doubt that Jack would love his new brother, but it has been incredible to watch his interactions with Emmett. Even though we are still working on what gentle means, Jack loves to hold Emmett, help get diapers or blankets for Emmett, and even help him play with his toys. What an awesome big brother!

S,S,Swim at the P,P, Pool!

weeks 1-2 011 This is what Jack exclaims every time he goes to the pool. During Tom’s week at home with us, he and Jack went to the pool every day. Their current favorite pool is in Montake Terrace. It has a leisure pool, which is shallow enough that Jack can touch the bottom. It has fountains, toys, and is perfect for Jack!  The pool also features a lazy river, perfect for Tom and Jack to float together in.

It is amazing what repeated exposure to swimming has done for Jack’s confidence in the water. He is kicking his legs, pulling with his arms, blowing bubbles in the water, and even smiling after putting his head under the water! It is pure joy to watch him play in the water—he loves it!

I apologize that I haven’t updated the blog quicker, but I am finding it more challenging to find time to email and blog!  Once I get a routine, you can bet I’ll keep this baby up to date with the happenings of my two boys!

Tom was at home with us for the very first week after coming home from the hospital. It was such special time to be together as our new little family.

On Monday Tom went back to work and my parents came down to spend the week with us. What a blessing it was to have them here—I don’t know what I would have done without them!

Welcome, Emmett Thomas

hospital 024 Early Tuesday morning we welcomed Emmett Thomas into our family. He was born at 6:36am, weighing 7 lbs. 11 ounces, and 20 1/2 inches long. He is absolutely adorable, though we are a little bias, and his big brother already loves him to pieces! Today's post will focus on the hospital and Emmett's birth. I promise more pictures in the days to come!

Emmett’s Arrival:

hospital 005 Emmett didn't take long to enter this world. I started early labor around midnight and waited until about 2:30 to tell Tom. We called Jane and she made a middle of the night trip to our house to stay with Jack. By the time we got to the hospital it was about 3:30 and I was still feeling really good. My contractions were starting to get more intense, but were still bearable. hospital 006When they examined me at check-in, I was already 5cm dilated! I was still doing well with my contractions, despite the fact that they poked and prodded me for nearly an hour trying to get an IV into me. They finally did, and by this point I was ready for some pain relief. However, when the doctor checked me, I had already progressed to 8cm and was entering transition! She told me that they could attempt an epidural, but that I would most likely deliver before it took effect. So, Ihospital 012 went for it without any drugs!  Transition was intense, but once I made it to the pushing part, it only took four really big pushes and Emmett was here!  I got to hold him immediately, and he was calm and alert. Then they took him to examine him, and Tom spent some time with him while they weighed and measured him.

hospital 009 Now that he was here, we had to decide on a name. We had a few names coming into the hospital that we liked, but since we couldn't decide, we thought we'd wait until we saw the little guy to make our decision. It took us nearly an hour before deciding on Emmett. Tom said that he just felt like that was his name as he interacted with him. hospital 028Another deciding factor was Jack. We've been asking Jack what the baby's name should be and he has always said Emmett when choosing from the choices we gave him. So there you have it, Emmett, which means strong and industrious, won out. Once we had a name, we could introduce him to the rest of the family. As you'll see from the pictures below, Emmett was surrounded by love that very first day of life.

Delta Love

house This past weekend marked the 100th anniversary of my sorority’s chapter house. There was a big reunion planned with many Tri Delt activities in place. On Saturday I met my friends, Megan and Carrie, for lunch and then we headed up to the house to go on a tour of it.  It is hard to believe that it has been 10 years since I lived there. A lot has changed, but yet so much has stayed the same. Being at the house was especially fun since there were many girls there also touring who lived in the house at the same time that I did. We did a lot of reminiscing, as you will see from my pictures. Another fun thing, a girl from my first year of teaching pledged Tri Delta and currently lives in the house, so it was fun to see her and find out what life is like living there now. pc 94 and 95

I took this picture for two reasons: 1)they have awesome new closets 2)we were in awe of how high those heels are! We never wore ANYTHING like that during college!

Such a fun trip back in time to some really great memories from college. I guess deep down I am still a T-R-I- D-E-L-T-A!
