New Years at the Zoo

For Christmas, Santa generously gave our family a membership to the zoo. We have been really excited about trying it out, so we headed there as a family on New Year's Day. It was a pretty chilly day, so we didn't plan to stay long. That's the great thing about having a membership, you don't feel like you have to see every single exhibit in one visit. We began at the Family Farm so that Jack could see his cow. He didn't show as much interest in the cow this time, but he did like the goat that came right up to the fence.  Next, we saw the gorillas. They were right up by the glass, so we really got to watch them. We even got to see the little baby, who clung so endearingly to her mother as she walked around. From there we made our way to the warmth of the Nocturnal House. Well, I should say that it was formerly called the Nocturnal House, now it is called the Day and Night House. I guess that is more politically correct. :) Jack loved it in there. Partially because it was warm, but also because the animals were really active.

From there we had a snack, and ended our zoo trip in the Zoomazium. I don't think this building was there the last time we were at the zoo. It is amazing!  It has two separate play areas, one for toddlers and the other for larger children. There is also a stage where they have performances, and an area where zoo employees do demonstrations. It is so cool!  I think Jack's favorite part was the fish tank. There was one little blue fish that kept coming right up to the glass and "kissing" Jack's hand. He loved it! He also enjoyed pretending that he was a bird and hatching from his egg. We had such a fun time at the zoo. I know that we will be getting a ton of use out of that membership. Thank you, Santa!
